In September 2023, a refinery in Canada, confronted a pressing issue: decreased efficiency
in one of its heaters. After an inspection, the client determined that the convection section

The Challenge

The inability to shut down the heater was a major challenge to the project. Knowing traditional cleaning methods would disrupt ongoing operations, CTP proposed an online Neutramex® cleaning, a process performed without stopping the unit.

Neutramex® is a dry chemical with a dual action system that mechanically and chemically removes deposits upon application. 100% is sublimated under the temperature of the heater.

The package offered included compressors, pneumatic injection systems and after coolers. Optional backups are always provided when needed, to guarantee uninterrupted service continuity.

The Solution

Despite encountering initial challenges with inaccessible convection sections, CTP’s expertise prevailed. Working closely with the client, CTP identified optimal access points and guided the client through the creation of online access doors.

This collaborative effort ensured speed of the cleaning process. A dedicated team of four workers, including a superintendent, site manager and two technicians, operated seamlessly under strict safety and environmental protocols and completed the project in less than a week.

The Results

After cleaning, heater efficiency increased by 2.5%, accompanied by a remarkable 115 °F reduction in stack temperature. These improvements underscored the effectiveness of CTP’s Neutramex® cleaning.
