A refinery on the Gulf Coast was facing serious challenges with its wastewater treatment system. Their primary treatment method was inefficient and caused high emissions (BTEX, VOC), leaving them out of regulatory compliance. They urgently needed a quick and effective solution, so they contacted CTP Environnement.

The Challenge

The refinery relied on an outdated wastewater treatment t hat not only was underperforming but brought significant environmental concerns due to a system’s leakage. High volatile organic compound (VOC) and benzene emissions exceeded Gulf Coast regulatory limits, requiring a quick and reliable solution to maintain production and ensure compliance.

The Solution

After assessing the problem, CTP proposed the installation of an Aeromobil® unit (DNF) specifically adapted with a customized cover to seal the emissions and address both the effluent treatment and air emissions issues simultaneously

With this upgrade, CTP’s Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit was converted to a Dissolved Nitrogen Flotation (DNF) system, allowing for nitrogen injection, which helped limit emissions.

As part of the solution, CTP’s provided a fully managed system, including:

  • Remote, 24/7 and fully automated operation alarms: connected to both CTP and the client’s mobile devices.

  • Mobile connectivity: allowing CTP to assist in real-time if operational issues arise.

  • On-site implementation support: to ensure smooth startup and operation.

The solution was implemented in three key phases: assessment and feasibility studies to determine the best approach, installation and ongoing support, ensuring seamless operation and compliance. This mid- to long-term temporary solution gives the refinery time to fully rebuild its wastewater treatment system.

The Results

CTP’s Aeromobil® unit delivered immediate, measurable
improvements that addressed all the customer’s initial concerns:

  • The customer reported no VOC or benzene emissions, meeting Gulf Coast emissions standards.

  • The new wastewater treatment system eliminated the refinery’s primary inefficiencies.

  • The remote monitoring system provides continuous analysis and immediate troubleshooting

  • The project was completed on time with no reported incidents.

Using Aeromobil®, CTP provided an innovative treatment solution that not only improved effluent treatment efficiency, but also sealed emissions, bringing the refinery back into compliance — all while offering remote monitoring and operational flexibility.

CTP is one of the few to offer a rental solution with a fully covered system, a key differentiator from competitors. This ability to provide water treatment positions CTP as a leader in comprehensive, compliant wastewater treatment solutions.
